Test drive

I've decided that's it's finally time to assimilate to normalcy and purchase a car. I know it's kinda fruity, but I've got my sights set on a Volkswagen Beetle :) My girlfriend brought up a good point: that I'd never actually driven one (for that matter, walking past them in parking lots is as close as I've ever come to them!); thus, taking one out for a spin was probably a good idea.

Being inside was nice. The blind spots are small and, since I like small cars, the driving felt good. I know realise test driving can be a double-edge sword: if you have a bad experience, you can cross that car off of your "I want" list, but if not, your desire for the automobile grows. And that's exactly what's happened in this case - man do I want a beetle :)

Unfortunately, used beetles are expensive. Every used Beetle on the lot was way too much for me, which didn't really come as a surprise as I've been looking at these things online for years. I'm going to keep looking though - there's a beetle diamond in the rough somewhere. If I don't find one, it's all good: I hear Volkswagen is changing up the body in the near future. Maybe I'll have a real job by then.

Ice T

I took my girlfriend to the airport tonight; she was on a Continental flight headed back to Newark. As soon as we walked into the ticketing area, he caught my eye. I thought, "man, that dude looks a lot like Ice T." He made brief eye contact, obviously worried about being recognised, but it was too late - he'd been made :)

You gotta understand, Ice T is a childhood hero of sorts. A kat I've been a fan of since the 80's, since the inception of hip-hop. I was an Ice T fan before the days of New Jack City, before Cop Killa; back when he first stepped onto the scene as an ex-pimp turn rapper.

The ill part about Ice T, that's stuck with him throughout the years, is how it's been obvious that he's never had formal training at anything he's undertaken. He's been able to achieve success using his own intuition and style. And while a lot of rappers have have either fallen by the wayside, Ice T has continued to grow throughout the years; his success matched only by the like of Dr. Dre and Ice Cube. Ice T took that same "intuition" he brought the rap game and applied it to acting, which has allowed him continued success in front of the camera. Again, he probably won't win an Oscar anytime soon, but he's a solid player in one of televisions most watched shows.

My first Ice T sighting was in SoHo a couple years back. I was walking down the street and noticed this big body 600 stopped at a light - I mean this thing was big, and it had some nice chromey sneakers on too. Seeing nice cars in the city isn't uncommon, but seeing a 600 iced out like this was. I looked inside and sure enough, sitting in the drivers seat was Ice T. Having nothing better to do, he was playing with this abnormally large piece attached to his chain; the thing had to be the size of a small fetus, it was stupid.

But anyway, by mere chance, tonight at LAX, the ticket counter that my girlfriend used was right next to where Ice T was standing (I had no idea guys like this flew normal carriers). I kinda felt like he wasn't in the mood to be bothered, but after some encouragement from my girlfriend, I walked up and let him know, "I've always been a fan."

Party at 204

My roommates friend turned 21 this past Monday, so we threw her a party this past weekend. Shit was crazy. Good times were definitely had by all; and, much to our surprise, the cops weren't the ones who ended it! There's more pictures in the vault - email me for the link.

Doh!

I bought my girlfriend this t-shirt (archive) the other day, not only because she herself is a "little brown girl," but because of the (I thought) Macy's connection. Being that she's from the city, Macy's has a special place in her heart: she worked there as a kid, and has (along with her family) given the establishment many dollars over the years.

So the t-shirt arrives and I go, "yea, I thought it was cool cause of the Macy's thing [yada yada yada]." She responds, "the t-shirt is great, but the "little brown bag" is a Bloomingdale's thing." Doh!

Update: You know, now that I look at it, the shirt is called, "Blooming Girl baby tee." Dammit what a brain fart that was.

Bush and his cronies

This is easily one of the funniest pictures I've ever seen. The expressions on each of their faces is so appropriate. I found it on a message board (which I don't recommend checking out if you're under 18 or on a public/work machine); props go to the original poster.

The liger

"It's pretty much my favorite animal. It's like a lion and a tiger mixed… bred for its skills in magic." You can never tell what to believe out of Napoleon, but I guess this was one thing you could have (although I'm still trying to verify the "magic" part).
