Snakes on a Plane

Are you kidding me? Is this movie seriously the number one movie in America right now? As an early disclaimer: I haven't seen it, and certainly don't plan to; thus, the following rant is bias and unsubstantiated, but I had to say something.

I'm not even sure where to begin. Lets start with the title… err, I mean, plot… err, I mean, title - any movie that has the same title and plot can't be good. Is the plot really that shallow that it can un-metaphorically also be a title? Sure there are several movies whose title doesn't necessarily leave you searching for deeper meaning, but at least for those the title deserves a small bit of explanation. Not here. There's no room need for thought.

And Samuel Jackson - c'mon man, I respected you. Did Dave Chappelle's mockery ruin your career? Regardless, you're better than this.

What bothers me most about this being number one is the fact that it validates the power of American advertising. New Line et. al. made sure we knew about this movie. I don't even have TV and I knew about it. In just about every piece of print and digital media I've seen for the past couple months, I've seen something about Snakes on a Plane. I knew they were pulling out all the stops when a couple of weeks ago I saw an aerial ad for it at the beach. For this I give them kudos. However, if you were ever in doubt about whether or not America will buy into anything they are told, you can now be certain.

I have no idea why but I must say I did have a friend who went to watch it and thought it was okay!

Okay, so I did end up seeing this movie. But partly because I had to (Jennifer and I were trapped in a Mexican hotel with nothing better to do; and we certainly checked, there was nothing better to do). It was every bit just as bad as I had anticipated.
