Puerto Rico
I met up with Jennifer in Puerto Rico this past weekend (4 nights/4 days). She has an annual conference down there for work, so I tagged along. I've never really had a burning desire to see Puerto Rico, so I was looking forward more to hanging out with Jennifer than seeing the country. Unfortunately, Puerto Rico didn't really surprise me.
The whole place feels like the US part II. They have our stores and many of their services our run by our government agencies. What really surprised me was the fact that I didn't have to go through customs. Regardless of whether or not they're apart of the US, I figured since they were an island they'd want to limit anything brought into the country. Guess not.
I didn't have a chance to explore the culture too much. We pretty much hung out at our hotels most of the time. The first couple nights we stayed in San Juan at the Hilton Caribe, a nice place, but not quite worth the price; I think you pay for location more than anything. It too three calls to the front desk to get our room cleaned on Thursday!
Friday, we made our way east. Jennifer had already seen the western/southern portion of the country. We didn't really have a plan, it was just to drive around and find a place that looked fun to stay in. After exploring Fajardo and parts of Humacao, we were ready to give up and head back to San Juan, when we stumbled upon the Four Points by Sheraton Palmas del Mar Resort. They gave us a great weekend deal and we pretty much hung around there for the next two nights. Our days were spent between the beach and the pool, while our nights were consumed in resorts restaurant and casino. To say it was a great time was an understatement. We both agreed that if we're ever back in PR, we're going straight from the airport to Palmas del Mar.
